For those of you who have not been to an Alumni Association meeting for some time, I would like to give you some information about the program. The Citizen Patrol will consist of interested volunteers from the Sylvania Township Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association. Volunteers on the Citizen Patrol will receive specialized training provided by the police department that will prepare them to patrol designated areas of Sylvania Township and to perform other duties to assist STPD officers. Some of the duties the Citizen Patrol will perform are enforcement of handicap parking and fire lane violations, assisting disabled motorists, and assisting officers with traffic control.
To date, twenty one members of the Alumni Association have completed the Citizen Patrol Training that began in December 07. Their primary focus will be patrolling the neighbourhoods and retail areas of the township.
The police department has providing a vehicle for the use of the Citizen Patrol and all necessary equipment. The only cost to the volunteers is their uniform, which with all items included, will cost approximately $180.
If you are interested in information that is more detailed, I encourage you to attend the next Alumni Association meeting.
